For 166 years, that house stood on stolen labor, soaked in silence.
On May 15, 2025, it burned. And not everyone who watched it fall was living.

But this wasn’t just wood and plaster collapsing. It was a symbol. A monument to centuries of terror, labor, and silence finally returning to the earth. 
In this painting, I imagined the unseen crowd, our ancestors. Some whole, some glitching between memory and spirit. All of them present. Watching the house that held their pain, their labor, their stolen names and broken bodies, finally fall. They did not weep. They did not flinch. They stood in witness. This is not grief. This is memory. This is release. 

“Witness: A Reckoning” is my offering to them, and to us. A way to remember that justice does not always knock. Sometimes it arrives in flame. And when it does, we must not look away. This work exists for the collective, for every descendant who still carries what they were never meant to survive. For every soul who felt that fire was not a loss, but a return. Let this hang not as decoration, but as declaration: We are the witness. And the reckoning has already begun.
